Math is all around us.  We use math when we go to the grocery store and decide if 16 ounces is bigger than 1 pint.  The cashier uses math to count our change.  We use math when we follow a recipe, when we decorate our homes, and when we plan a vacation.  Can you imagine not knowing the temperature?  We even use math in music by knowing that a quarter note is fourth of a measure.  Math is an important skill for your second grader to learn in my classroom.  It is something that will definitely benefit them for the rest of their lives.

A simple thing that you can do at home is to work on basic addition and subtraction math facts. Memorizing these math facts is a necessary step before entering the world of multiplication and division in third grade.  There are many free, online games that provide this practice. Math games can help some children to learn math faster and retain that knowledge.  You can also work with flashcards or even go through math facts on the way to school.  The small, simple, consistent practice at home will provide your child with a strong foundation for math in the future.

Do not worry about your problems with mathematics,
I assure you mine are far greater.
